Becoming a Mason

Requirements to become a Freemason

A man must seek the Mysteries of Freemasonry “…of his own free will and accord.” No mason should ever outright solicit membership to you. While it is common for other organizations to recruit or solicit membership, Freemasonry does not follow this model. We are an exclusive organization, but that does not mean that we have an unwelcome presence toward those who seek us out.
A man’s intentions must be pure in heart. He must not seek membership for mercenary motives such as social networking or potential career advancement.

Belief in a Supreme Supernatural Being and the immortality of the human soul is mandatory. Our members have and do consist of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, etc. We welcome men of many faiths, but according to Masonic jurisprudence, there must be an obedience to a moral law that “denotes the rule of good and evil, or of right and wrong, revealed by the Creator and inscribed on man’s conscience even at his creation, and consequently binding upon him by divine authority.”

Lodges are meant to bring men of different social classes together to meet “upon the level.” Worldly wealth or honors hold no reverence with a lodge. A president and his groundskeeper, a soldier and his general, a Chief and his firefighter are all the same within a lodge. President Harry Truman refused the title of Mr. President while in lodge. Together they all enjoy the title brother.
